Award winning lighting designer, Patrick Woodroffe, gave a fascinating talk to C. Hoare & Co. customers on his renowned career in lighting design. His passion and obvious talent was inspirational, as he talked about some of the incredible events he has been involved in.

Highlights from the talk included Patrick’s experiences as head lighting designer for The London 2012 Olympic Games and how, with his team of 75, he managed to pull off one of the most ambitious events in the history of lighting design.

He gave a brief summary of the history of lighting within the rock industry. In particular he explained how the invention of the V1 moving light, which was partially invented by the rock group Genesis, had revolutionised the world of stage lighting. Furthermore he provided a witty and unique insight into the lives of some of the stars he had worked with, such as Keith Richards, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.  He also provided a fascinating picture of Michael Jackson and what proved to be his final rehearsal.

All in all it was an exceptionally entertaining and illuminating view of the surprisingly glamorous world of lighting design and was much appreciated by the audience.
